Monica is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts as well as her Bachelor of Education at York University. She has gained invaluable experience working with children and adolescents through various educational, professional, and personal activities. These experiences include her involvement with ringette as a player for the past twelve years, ringette team captain, coach and referee for the past five years and soccer coach for the past four years. Throughout her high school years, Monica has been a mentor with the Best Buddies Program, a Youth Group Leader at Our Lady Queen of the Worlds Parish, and the President for the ESP Council (Empowered Student Partnerships). Monica completed a co-op program with over 300 hours of classroom experience and has over three years of experience tutoring students from kindergarten to grade 12. Throughout her university experience thus far, Monica has spent her time volunteering as a York university student peer mentor, student ambassador in the Faculty of Education Association and professional development director in a non-profit organization called Peace By Peace. Through her experiences, Monica has garnered a deep understanding of both the learning and teaching processes. These experiences have consolidated her desire to become an inspirational teacher. Monica enjoys working with students very much, has a positive attitude, and a passion to support and motivate students with different needs. She finds, from her own experience, that people learn things differently. When students struggle with a subject, it’s usually because their learning style conflicts with the style or pace with which it is being taught. Tutoring one-on-one gives students the opportunity to learn at an optimal pace.
